Local Phone Voice Service: Local phone service may also be coined as 'dial tone' service. Local phone service providers offer the actual origination of your dial tone and phone service. These companies also offer 'local calling' options of which the distance covered and costs involved are independent to each provider. Local access options are offered directly through copper phone lines such as POTS, Centrex or CentraNet as well as via T-1 protocols such as a PRI or BRI services.
Long Distance Voice Service: Long distance phone service is any call directed outside of the local service calling area. This product is usually billed on a per minute basis. Long distance services can simply extend through local copper wire called 'switched' long distance or via T-1 connections labeled 'dedicated' long distance service.
Frame Relay: Frame Relay is intended for data communications applications, in particular LAN-to-LAN inter networking. It is protocol independent and able to support data transfers of 56K/64K connections through T-1 and T-3 speeds. Frame Relay offers lower costs and higher performance in efficiently handling high speed, burst data over wide area networks (WANs) than meshed private line networks.
Dedicated Internet: Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) connections enable customers direct access to the internet in an unshared fashion. Its major advantage over Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service is that it offers 'guaranteed' bandwidths and adheres to strict service level agreements (SLAs) regarding network availability, latency and packet loss. Dedicated Internet clients procure data transfers via T-1 speeds or greater.
Integrated Access: Integrated Access is a product offering voice and internet services on a single dedicated T-1 circuit. This service allows a customer to simultaneously obtain dedicated internet and dedicated long distance rates by partitioning individual channels through the T-1 access circuit.
Digital Subscriber Line: Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service is an aggregate, or shared, form of internet connectivity that is carried directly over copper wires and is therefore 'distance sensitive'. While it is a relatively reliable and inexpensive form of internet access, it possesses potential setbacks regarding service level agreements (SLAs) such as latency and packet loss.
Private Lines: A Private Line is a direct channel specifically dedicated to a customer's use between specific points. Private Lines offer highly available connectivity, as they are dedicated to the use of a single organization or entity. As private lines are priced solely based on distance, with no usage-sensitive cost element, they can be used constantly and at maximum capacity. Private Lines commonly transfer data at 56K/64K or full T-1 speeds.
Virtual Private Network: A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is the augmentation of a shared network on secure basis through encryption and tunneling. In particular, Internet Protocol (IP) or IP-VPN networks are becoming more popular as they allow internet and interoffice connectivity through a single circuit along with the necessary encryption and tunneling to maintain ample network security.
Conference Calling: A Service that provides the user with access to multiple calls combined into one convenient call. Usually accessed by a toll free number, a PIN is issued to each leg of the call so that they can access it at a certain time.
