Private Line Service (Point to Point)

A Private Line is a direct channel specifically dedicated to a customer's use between specific points. Private Lines offer highly available connectivity, as they are dedicated to the use of a single organization or entity. As private lines are priced solely based on distance, with no usage-sensitive cost element, they can be used constantly and at maximum capacity. Private Lines commonly transfer data at 56K/64K or full T-1 speeds.

A dedicated voice or data communication channel that takes place between two nodes on a network and can be transmitted over a variety of transmission media, such as twisted copper pairs, coaxial wire, fiber optics, micro-wave or digital wireless radio shots to name a few. This type of communication has no point of central control and the sender and receiver are directly connected to one another in a peer to peer fashion. This service is also know as "point to point communication" or a "point to point circuit". Bandwidth ranges typically from 9.6 KBPS to 1.544 MBPS (T-1), but can occasionally go up to 45 MBPS (DS-3) or even sometimes as high as 155 MBPS OC-3 (Optical Carrier 3).
